Where the Shanghai Major 2024 will take place

The tournament is organized by the Chinese company Perfect World, which is hosting a major for the first time. However, it has entered into a long-term partnership with PGL, which has already earned a reputation in this field. Specifically, the latter company will handle the organization of the English broadcasts. Last spring, Perfect World introduced the official mascot of the tournament – a character named HAI. The company explains that his name is meant to signify the friendliness with which he welcomes all participants to the first Chinese major.

All matches of the Shanghai Major 2024 will be held with spectators. The first two stages will take place at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, and the final stage – at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center, which accommodates up to 18,000 spectators. The final matches will take place from December 12 to 15.

Who will participate in the Shanghai Major 2024?

The final list of participants will be determined in the RMR tournaments, which will be held separately for the European, American, and Asian regions throughout November. Europe will host two tournaments, each featuring 16 teams vying for 7 slots. The results will determine who starts in Shanghai from the Opening Stage and who from the Elimination Stage. A similar scheme, but in one stage, will compete American teams, while in Asia, 8 teams will play in the qualifying tournament, three of which will advance to the major. Thus, the total list of 24 teams will be formed.

Favorites in the Asian region can be called MongolZ and FlyQuest, while who will get the remaining slot is hard to predict. In the list of American contenders for spots in the tournament, MIBR, Complexity, Team Liquid, and FURIA Esports stand out. However, the final result can be unpredictable. The tournament is conducted in a Swiss format, and the first rounds are played in a Best-of-1 scheme, so participants often simply do not have a chance to correct mistakes, and elimination can be the result of an unfortunate miss or bad luck.

The European tournaments are worth watching with particular attention. In European RMR A, among many well-known names, will appear Natus Vincere, Faze Clan, and Team Vitality. Additionally, s1mple is making a comeback to big tournaments, now playing for the Danish Team Falcons. In recent months, they have not been very successful, dropping from the tenth to twenty-fourth place in the world rankings over the last six months and having a win rate of just 36% over three months. Perhaps the team will still manage to pull together and show themselves – their first qualifying match they will play on November 17 against the Czech ECLOT.

In European RMR B, you can see, for example, G2 Esports, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Virtus.pro, Astralis, Team Spirit, and Aurora Gaming. With such a lineup of participants, it is hard to predict the result, but exciting matches are almost guaranteed.

As usual, the major will be accompanied by the release of souvenir cases and new stickers featuring all participating teams. Don't miss the moment and follow the competitions to grab new items, and in the meantime, you can replenish your collection with stickers and cases from previous tournaments on Lis-Skins.
