On Saturday night, Valve sent out an email to tournament organizers announcing that it was canceling the major, which was scheduled to take place in mid-May 2021. This decision is most likely due to the situation with the coronavirus pandemic, due to which a number of competitions have already been canceled in 2020. Earlier in September, Valve announced that it would postpone scheduling future majors until it was safe to organize at least regional LAN tournaments.
Valve has now articulated its intentions as follows: «We remain bound by our previous commitments, and we now have a European venue planned for the event and a key partner for the event. If circumstances permit, the major will take place from October 25 to November 7, with preliminary matches – October 23-24».
Thus, the tournament will take place a week earlier than previously planned and will be the fourth consecutive event of this level to be held in Europe. Valve also notes that the changes to the RMR rating calculation procedure that were made in April remain in effect for now. The company remains open to feedback from tournament organizers regarding this system.
