ESL will increase the length of LAN events in 2021

ESL and DreamHack have released preliminary plans for events to take place in 2021. In total, they expect to hold 8 LAN events – two fewer than expected before the – pandemic with a total prize pool of $4.5 million. After consulting with teams and players, the organizers decided to make significant changes to how the tournaments would be spread out over time to reduce the strain on players and create a more impressive show for spectators. 

Previously, ESL and DreamHack tournaments were usually held in one week. The matches will now be spread over two weeks, with a pause between the group stage and the playoffs. ESL officials note that this format will allow them to show viewers stories that have been left out due to busy schedules. In addition, such a regimen will help teams better plan trips. As a result, the workload on players will be reduced, as they will get more time to rest.
