The legal battle in which Finnish player Elias «Jamppi» Olkkonen is seeking compensation from Valve over a VAC ban he believes was unfair has taken a new twist this week.
Jamppi's account received a ban back in 2015. In March 2020, the player decided to sue Valve, expecting to recover over $200,000 in lost profits. He believes that the ban prevented him from becoming a member of a professional OG team and closed his opportunity to play in the majors. In addition to compensation, the player demanded that the ban be lifted.
In addition, Jamppi hoped to get the ban temporarily lifted now, while the trial is ongoing. On August 20, Valve responded to that request with a denial. The company believes that Jamppi's temporary exemption from the restrictions will send the wrong message to other players: they will decide that they can use cheats or allow infractions and then, by dragging out the legal dispute, continue to compete while avoiding a ban. Valve representatives also noted that the restrictions do not actually prevent Jamppi from performing on the professional stage.
The consideration of the case on the merits will continue. In addition, Jamppi has the opportunity to challenge the court's decision within the next week.
