ESL has announced the schedule and locations for the RMR Tournament Series Road to Rio. In total, more than five dozen teams will fight for the opportunity to get to the IEM Rio Major 2022.
Unlike the previous series, which preceded PGL Major Antwerp and were held sequentially in different regions, this time all three events will be held simultaneously, from October 4 to 9. As a result, this phase of the competition will be shortened by eight days compared to the previous cycle.
The European phase, which will be held in Malta, will feature 32 teams that will be selected based on the position taken at the previous major and the results of the open qualifying tournaments played in the second half of August. All participants will be divided into two separate tournaments, each with eight spots in the majors. Four leaders of the first RMR tournament and 3 leaders of the second will go straight to the Legends stage.
At the same time, the teams from North and South America will be squaring off in Stockholm. Six of the 16 entrants will advance to the majors, with the tournament leader going straight to the Legends. Finally, four Asian teams will play at PAX Aus in Melbourne, playing for two spots in the majors.
