The creators of UMP-45 Motorized from The Kilowatt Case shared some interesting facts about the skin, its development, passhacks and future plans

18 April 2024, 21:45

The UMP-45 Motorized (Motor) skin was added to the game in February 2024 as part of The Kilowatt Collection. Its design, with its elaborate metallic surface texture, looks like an internal combustion engine has been converted into a submachine gun. The type of finish «gunsmith» allowed the authors to completely transform the appearance of the weapon, turning it into a complex mechanism with many parts visible from the outside, such as wires, hoses, pipes and switches.  As a result, the weapon looks both mysterious and technological at the same time.

The skin was selected from Steam Workshop, where it was originally published under the name Assembled Engine. Its authors were skinmakers LEFTY and gdreamer. In an interview with our portal they told about their work on the skin and shared their opinion about the game.

How did you come up with the idea to create the skin?

Lefty: It's simple, the idea came to me when my BMW X6 engine 4.4 liter N63 broke down, after its breakdown, the eternal search for a new engine at the scrap yards I came up with the idea to transfer the V-engine to the weapon in CS2.

Were there any difficulties in creating it and how much time it took?

Gdreamer:

The

technical part of the skin was created by me. At first and during the creation of the model I did not experience any difficulties, everything went as if in one breath, caught inspiration. By the way, I think that on this skin I have risen quite well in modeling skills.

The main hiccups went when I started to fix the bugs on the sweep, because the skin is made in a special way, and then fixed the textures from bugs. It took me a lot of test versions of the skin and edits, I adjusted them to different color versions of the skin, but in the end I achieved the result I had planned.

How do you divide the work in your team?

Lefty was responsible for the idea, part of the concept and general design, and Gdreamer was responsible for implementation, modeling and texturing.

One of the users of social network X noticed that the skin is based on BMW N74 V12, but the intake manifold looks more like a V8

.

So which engine is bigger here?)

Gdreamer: Regarding the funny moment with the v12 - turns out it's my fault, I didn't realize that the v12 engine has more cylinders than there are on the skin. I also thought the v12 lettering would look more imposing than the v8. I think players and Valve don't care much about that, the main thing is how the skin looks in the game in general and how much attention it attracts).

Are there any interesting references or pass-hacks on

the

skin?

Gdreamer: there is a pass-hack on the sweep, in a hidden place I wrote my nickname and Lefty, as well as the date of skin creation. I think that's how we'll be remembered more clearly in CS history. And for me the very inscription 45 on the skin is already a meme, because I made it by rofl, and did not think that it will play so much on the final decision when choosing skins on UMP, and will attract the attention of BMW fans.

Do you think there are now in the game complementary stickers for UMP-45 | Motorized or it is quite a self-sufficient skin? And what do you think about stickers on skins?

Gdreamer: For now I don't think stickers are suitable for our skin, because with them, already rich in details and relief work looks too overloaded. Maybe in the future the game will add stickers that will harmonize with our skin and cause even more unusual emotions

Lefty: I think that, on skins like ours, which are based on a loaded 3D model stickers look distorted and spoil the whole look.

Gdreamer: Stickers on skins — it

'

s always cool, you can add a little creativity to the skin in your inventory, something of yourself

.

What to say, with the recent update of stickers, you can do ideas there that we never thought of before.

Do you remember how you found out that your skin was added to the game? What were your emotions?

Lefty: this is not my first skin that was added to the game (the first one was MAC-10 Button Man), I thought I would react calmly, but I was wrong, because the release of the new case was quite loud considering that it is the first case in CS2, the first thing I saw was a post about the fact that there will be an update with a change in the sticker system, and then  scrolling, just below I saw the case and our skin, the time was 3–5  hours of the night, first of all I called Gdreamer and made him happy, and then all the family and friends, the greatest pleasure is that we got into the first case in CS2!

Gdreamer: Anyway, how did I find out how our skin was accepted? It was an ordinary weekday, or rather night. I had to get up in the morning to study, so I set my alarm. Suddenly, in the night, I wake up to my phone going off with vibrations. I thought it was the same alarm clock, in a terrible mood I pick up my phone, and see another one there. I get a call from Lefty in the middle of the night. In the first few seconds, I didn't understand why he was calling me, and at 5 in the morning. At that point, I don't remember us having a good conversation and we had something to discuss.

I answer him in confusion, and I hear his shocked voice saying that our skin is in the case and there is a big update. In the first few seconds I didn't believe him, and I asked him several times if it was true?  He claimed to me that it was true and we were really taken. In total shock, I drop the call and immediately check my email, where I see the coveted letter from Valve. My emotions were just on edge. Going into the cart, I saw messages of congratulations from my skinmaker friends, I was over the moon. For a few days after that I was in a dream, the feeling cannot be described in words.

I guess I haven't fully realized that it really happened yet, but I'm proud of myself.

Do you play CS often after Source 2 release? What are the most noticeable problems now?

Gdreamer: After getting our skin in the case, I got even more interested in this game, and I enjoy playing it a lot.  And when you play with your own skin, it adds a unique emotion that almost no one has ever felt.

Lefty: I have played, I play and will continue to play. CS2 is a great game, especially after the game moved to a new engine. The new engine brings many new options for creating skins and other content.  The game has its problems, but that's normal, the main problem now is cheaters, but I think Valve will solve this issue this year.

Do you communicate with other skinmakers or is it a more closed community?

Lefty: we all communicate with each other, the skinmaker community is friendly and there are always people who can help you or make a common skin. We even see some of the skinmakers in real life. We are all just regular people who just want to bring something different to our favorite game!

Gdreamer: I think the skinmaker community is unique and different. Almost everyone here is ready to help each other, to give an idea or point out mistakes.     Being in it, you have the urge to move on, to keep up with someone who knows more than you. You are constantly filled with inspiration. I don't regret a bit that I joined this community.

You also have a very interesting skin on Zeus in your Workshop. Do you think we'll see it in CS2 again?

Gdreamer: Zeus is also a joint work of me and Lefty, the technical part of which was done by me. I'm drawn to the idea of this skin, I believe it set me on the style of creating work that I was aiming for and with which, we actually got into the case study. I hope it will also see the light of day and be in the next case, I want to fill the game with our creativity and stay in the story more and more.

Are you working on something interesting that deserves a place in the game?

Lefty and Gdreamer: at the moment we are working on ideas to surprise the players even more and to put more of our works into the game.
