Often the authors of skins for CS:GO carefully consider not only their appearance, but also the names that not only describe the appearance of the skin or the main image that was used in the design of the object, but also contain non-obvious at first glance references. Here are some examples of skins, which attract collectors' attention not only by their interesting design.
Negev dev_texture
.The unusual spelling of the name Negev dev_texture – with a small letter and the underscore – immediately evokes associations with programming. Indeed, the name of this skin – is a reference to the original Source engine. That's why the design uses orange and gray as in the engine logo, and the gray elements look like temporary textures added for development. The picture is completed by the phrase «hammer.exe time», which refers to the Hammer editor – , Valve's official tool for creating maps and mods.
FAMASZX Spectron
Another interesting reference to the history of computer games is contained in the name FAMAS ZX Spectron. It refers to the ZX Spectrum – one of the first personal computers to gain truly mainstream popularity. The colored stripe on the FAMAS – case is a signature design element of «spectrum». Interestingly, the skin appeared in the game five days after the death of Clive Sinclair, the creator of the device.
P90ScaraB Rush
Sometimes a reference can be unnoticeable at first glance. There is nothing unusual about the design of the P90 ScaraB Rush – like other items from the same collection, it is Egyptian-inspired. And its name – is a reference to the meme «Rush B», which became widespread in the early years of the game.
AK-47 Bloodsport
.Often skin names refer to famous works of mass culture. For example, the name AK-47 Bloodsport brings to mind the legendary American movie «Bloodsport» with Jean-Claude Van Damme. The movie got its fame largely due to its impressive, aggressive fight scenes, which fits the mood of this skin.
P250Nevermore
.Sometimes skin designers don't limit themselves to modern works and reach for literary classics. Case in point – P250 Nevermore. However, how well the appearance of the skin matches the name depends on the pattern index. If you're lucky, the gun case will be adorned with several raven silhouettes that recall Edgar Allan Poe's poem «Nevermore», in which the black raven is a gloomy messenger of doom.
