PGL, which is set to organize the October-November major, released a statement this week saying that the chances of holding the tournament in Stockholm in an offline format still remain. The final decision will depend on what steps the local authorities will take in the near future.
The company mentioned that the key dates will be August 23 and September 15. Swedish authorities are expected to lift the temporary travel ban in August so that both players and spectators can enter the country. In mid-September, the restrictions on mass indoor events should be lifted, and then it will be possible to hold the PGL Major in the usual format with the presence of spectators.
The organizers stressed that the presence of fans is of key importance for the major. If the restrictions are extended due to a change in the epidemiologic situation and the majority of the audience cannot get to the show, they will look to move it elsewhere. In a statement released by PGL, the company said it looks forward to hosting the playoffs of the tournament in Stockholm, but is also prepared to reschedule if it turns out in September that anti-epidemic restrictions prevent it.
