American cybersports player Peter «ptr» Gurney, who played for the Bad News Bears, has announced the end of his CS: GO career. As a sniper, he has played on several major teams in recent years, including CLG, NRG and Complexity, and at some points has taken on the role of in-game leader as well.
Gurney has played on the Bad New Bears roster for the past two and a half years, albeit with a few interruptions. With his departure, the team, led by Alan «Shakezullah» Hardeman, is without a player less than two weeks before its opening match in Group A of ESL Pro League Season 14. In a post dedicated to stopping playing CS:GO, ptr explained that he is going to focus on professional poker.
ptr's career in cybersport began in 2014, when he started playing for the American mouseSpaz. After changing several bands, after a few years he joined the Test Takers – team that formed the basis of Bad New Bears in 2019. In 2020, when most matches were moved online, ptr participated mostly in US tournaments. BNB has successfully competed in several regional competitions including ESEA Cash Cups, Mythic Spring Series and DreamHack Masters Spring. As a result, the team was able to qualify for the IEM Cologne Championship play-in, but quickly dropped out of the qualifying stage.
