The organizers of the Elisa Invitational have announced that they plan to expand the number of events they host. Thus, from January to April there will be a series of tournaments called Elisa Nordic Championship with a total prize fund of $100000.
First, four separate leagues will be held in Denmark, Finland, Sweden and Norway with 16 local teams each. The prize pool will be $12,500 for each event. The winners of these leagues will qualify for the Elisa Invitational, where they will compete for a prize of $50,000 with four other teams who will receive direct invitations.
The participants of the national leagues will be determined in open qualification matches, which will take place already in the first days of January. Based on their results, twelve of the sixteen participants in each country will be selected, and the remaining four will be invited.
So far, the organizers have given more details only about the Finnish league: its group stage starts on January eighth. The playoffs, which will feature the top two teams from each group, won't begin until March 4. The organizers plan to publish details of the remaining national leagues in the near future.
