Kazakh cybersports organization AVANGAR on Wednesday, April 1, said that it disbanded the teams and stops participating in competitions. Its management now plans to focus on developing cyber sports clubs and arenas in the country. AVANGAR was established in 2017 and has seen success quite quickly. In 2019, AVANGAR' s previous CS:GO squad finished second at StarLadder Berlin Major before winning the BLAST Pro Series Moscow. As a result, the team ended up third in the world rankings for a while. Soon after, the squad was bought by Virtus.Pro.
In January 2020, the team recruited a new squad of young Kazakh players under the guidance of coach Sergey «Imbt» Bezhanov. However, he left the project a month ago. AVANGAR head Yongun Kim said the decision to close was made because the organization does not have enough time and resources to train young players. He considers it more promising to invest in the development of offline venues: AVANGAR has already organized several clubs and is currently building a cyber-arena in the city of Nur-Sultan. The organization has no immediate plans to put its own team back together, but wants to create a platform for aspiring players to prove themselves.
