There are several reasons for changing the landscape in Dota 2. Some people get bored with the standard look of the card and want variety, some choose a design by the season or mood, and some take into account practical considerations. Although cosmetic items do not directly affect gameplay, they can sometimes give a slight advantage.
There are currently eleven landscape skins available in Dota 2, which are divided into several categories and differ in accessibility. First of all, four map skins corresponding to different seasons are available for those who have a Dota Plus subscription. Which one is active depends on the current season.
Also in Dota 2 some landscapes cannot be bought at the moment. They were sold on the in-game marketplace for a limited period and were usually timed to coincide with major tournaments.
- The first of these was Desert Landscape, released in 2015. Many details of the map have changed to match the new style, for example, there are new plants and fauna. Initially, the skin was given to players who bought the compendium The International 2015.
- In 2016, the Immortal Garden, which turns the map into an ancient garden, similarly appeared in Dota 2. The color scheme has not changed much, but the trees have acquired clear geometric shapes.
- The 2017 landscape skin was dedicated to the theme of the underwater world. It was called Reef’s Edge and changed the look of the map quite drastically. It featured a variety of sea creatures and plants replaced with coral, shells, and underwater statues.
- The 2018 landscape is called The Emerald Abyss. The main theme of this skin – was various stones and minerals, and as fauna appeared unusual living creatures resembling animated mushrooms.
- In 2019 the game landscape Overgrow Empire, dedicated to the theme of wild jungles. This map features notable music, a variety of sounds that change depending on the time of day, and beautifully designed trees.
- The 2020 landscape was named Sanctums of the Divine, and it could be obtained by holders of the combat pass The International 10.
As you can see, a large portion of the landscape skins are only available for a limited time and then don't go on sale. However, one of them remains available to this day. This is The King’s New Journey, which gives the whole map a Japanese style, changing the appearance of trees, and adding new plants and fauna. A great option, especially for those who play with Monkey King – hero, to the appearance of which this card was timed. You can restock your inventory with this landscape at LIS-SKINS store for a great price.
