Gambit defeated Virtus.pro in the IEM Katowice Grand Final with a score of 3 – 1 and became the owners of the championship title. For the team, this is the biggest accomplishment of all time. At the beginning of the competition, many analysts assessed Gambit's chances as low, but the CIS team managed to knock the strongest opponents from their region out of the playoffs by beating Natus Vincere and Spirit.
Gambit sniper Dmitry «sh1ro» Sokolov won the first MVP award of his career - he was announced the most effective player of IEM Katowice 2021. The player performed well not only in the grand finals, but also in the previous matches – on 15 out of 17 cards played he showed an above-average rating and topped the leaderboards on several indicators at once. Nineteen times he managed to win in 1vX skirmishes against the opposing team – the same indicator at major championships showed only Alexander «s1mple» Kostylev. Thanks to effective actions in the grand final, sh1ro was able to beat one of his closest competitors in the race for the MVP title – Virtus.pro player Mareks «YEKINDAR» Galinskis.
Thus, Gambit became the owners of the tournament's main prize of $400,000. Second place went to Virtus.pro, and the third and fourth positions were shared by Liquid and Spirit. Natus Vincere and Astralis remained in fifth to sixth place.
