FunSpark and 5EPlay announced on Saturday that they will host a new tournament in Europe between April 19 and 26. The prize fund of the competition will be $250,000. In fact, this event will be a replacement for FunSpark ULTI LAN, which had to be postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic. Back in the fall of last year, it became known that the tournament, which was to be held in China in December, would be canceled due to restrictions on international flights and a difficult epidemic situation.
Eight top teams are expected to take part in the competition. It is already known that Virtus.pro, BIG and Complexity received invitations. All three teams are among the top ten teams in the world, with Virtus.pro ranking third on the list after their recent successful performance at IEM Katowice. Also included will be teams previously selected for the canceled tournament during closed qualifying matches – HAVU and ForZe from Europe and Extra Salt from North America. FURIA also received an invitation to the tournament, but declined to participate, explaining that the team would not be in Europe during the period when the competition would be held.
Thus, the number of participants included eight teams from the USA, Europe and the CIS. The double elimination competition will begin April 19.
