In the fifth season of the WePlay Academy League, the title went to fnatic Rising, who defeated Spirit Academy in the grand finals. The fnatic youth roster finished the group tournament with a score of 8 – 4 and then made the playoffs, losing only one card (in a match against Astralis Talent in the quarterfinals).
The fnatic Rising victory ushers in a new era in WePlay Academy, as various variations of the MOUZ NXT lineup have remained unchallenged leaders for the past four seasons. However, this time this team was eliminated in the group stage, ending up in fifth place in Group A with a win-loss ratio of 6 – 6.
This WePlay Academy season was the debut season for fnatic Rising coach Mikael «sheddaN» Mellström, who recently replaced Benjamin «cube» Staebell. In addition, the place of Julian «regali» Harjau, who left for Copenhagen Flames, is now taken by Filip «DEPRESHN» Jarkic. Despite these lineup changes, fnatic Rising started the group tournament with six straight wins before losing to Astralis Talent 16 - 10. Despite the fact that the team suffered a few more defeats at this stage, they easily secured a place in the top playoff spot.
In the final part of the tournament, the team performed almost flawlessly, leaving their opponents no chance to equalize. The cohesive and effective game of fnatic Rising is also evidenced by the fact that at the end of the tournament all team members showed a rating of more than one, and the leaders were Peppe «Peppzor» Borak and Mikkel «Maze» Pravat, who had a rating of 1.20 and 1.18 respectively.
