ESIC will involve the FBI in the match-fixing investigation

ESIC, the organization that monitors fair play in cybersports, will involve the FBI in the investigation of the situation with contractual matches on CS: GO. It has been ongoing since last fall and involves two sets of suspects. Firstly, some players bet on their own matches when the opportunity presented itself, and secondly, some cyber sportsmen were bribed «by betting syndicates» and played contracted matches according to a predetermined scheme.

An ESIC spokesperson said that the action they are taking now – is part of a larger investigation that will take some time to complete. It is already known that several high level players from North America have been involved in match-fixing on a regular basis. Also involved in the investigation was the newly created FBI unit, which deals with crimes related to the betting business.

It is expected that the data obtained during the first phase of the investigation will be released in the near future – within two weeks. The ESIC notes, however, that there is indisputable evidence against the players who will be charged.
