Tournament organizer Eden Esports, which has previously hosted events such as Supernova Malta, Champions Cup and Malta Vibes, has teamed up with agency Fantasyexpo to host a new series of events called the European Development Championship. The prize pool for the first five tournaments in the series will be $150,000.
The main objective of this event – is to help promote regional teams and broadcasters. Therefore, the selection system will be arranged as follows: partners who buy the rights to broadcast the competitions will be entitled to select teams or hold qualification tournaments at the local level.
The first series of open qualification matches is scheduled for November 14-15 and November 21-22. Then, on November 27-29, preliminary competitions will be held and finally, on November 30, the main tournament will begin. The first place team will be eligible for a grand prize of $17500 and the right to host a bootcamp at the InterContinental Hotel in Malta.
The head of «Eden Sports» spoke about the company's plans as follows: «The launch of the European Development Championship – is a consequence of the fact that for a long time Europe has been dominated by a few teams, making it impossible for cybersports fans in many countries to follow the achievements of local teams. We believe we can make a difference by giving them slots in tournament and partnerships».
