DreamHack has announced that they will postpone events scheduled for the remainder of 2020. This is because the coronavirus situation remains tense. Earlier this year, the tournament organizer had to move its main DreamHack Summer event online. Shortly thereafter, events in Valencia and Montreal were canceled. It has now been decided to hold all competitions online until the end of the year, including DreamHack Stops in Rotterdam, Hyderabad, Atlanta, Jonköping and Madrid.
DreamHack co-director Markus Lindmark commented on the developments as follows: «This year has been very challenging for everyone, but we will do our best to get back to the usual format of our festivals in 2021». He said that the decision to return to offline tournaments will be based on current recommendations from the World Health Organization and other regulatory bodies at the international and national level. For now, DreamHack will continue to find and implement innovative ways to keep in touch with eSports fans.
DreamHack is currently running its Open Summer championship in an online format, divided into four regional divisions.
