European team Cloud9 unexpectedly got the opportunity to play in the European division of DreamHack Masters Winter. It will take Evil Geniuses' place on the tournament gridiron, it was announced on Monday. The organizers made such a decision after the North American team had to postpone foreign travel due to restrictions related to the coronavirus.
A few days ago Evil Geniuses announced that they would miss the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown – at the event, with Heroic taking their place. Thus, the only event where the North American team will play before the end of the year will be the IEM Global Challenge in mid-December.
Cloud9 will take Evil Geniuses' position in Group A, where it will have to fight for a playoff spot against seven teams from Europe and CIS, including Complexity, Heroic, FaZe, Gambit and others. The championship will be held online between November 30 and December 6, with a prize pool of $150,000. Cloud9 leader Alex «Alex» McMeekin recently gave an interview in which he talked about his views on the team's prospects. In his opinion, its current squad has a good chance of success, but the players need more experience of official matches to improve their interaction.
