On May 17, the final match of the European division of ESL One: Road to Rio championship took place, in which Danish team Astralis and Serbian-French team G2 met. A more convincing victory is hard to imagine: the Danes won 3-0, defeating G2 on two consecutive maps (they gained another point of advantage due to their successful play in the previous stage). Astralis played Nuke with a score of 16:6 and Vertigo with a score of 16:2.
Thanks to this victory, the Danish team not only became the tournament leader, adding $33,000 in prize money to their account, but also strengthened their position in the regional rankings. It is the position in it that will later determine which teams will receive an invitation to the ESL One Rio tournament.
Thus, the first three places in the Road to Rio tournament were taken by Astralis, G2 and FaZe. In the European rankings, Astralis is 720 points ahead of G2, with Vitality, FaZe and ENCE following close behind. However, this could change more than once, with teams set to play StarLadder Major and two other tournaments to be announced soon. Eleven European teams will be invited to ESL One Rio, and their grid position will determine the ranking achieved.
